Marching into the New School Year

More than 150 student-musicians representing the Connetquot High School marching band recently participated in a five-day intensive 2019 summer camp to expand their skillsets as drum majors, color guard performers, kickline members and marching band instrumentalists.

During the camp, the students worked to learn the choreography for this year’s musical numbers and build comradery between new and returning members. To celebrate the success of this year’s camp, the Oakdale-Ronkonkoma-Bohemia Boosters for the Arts provided the students with a delicious barbeque on the last day.

“I congratulate all the students and student-leaders for a successful week; we are looking forward to another great year,” said Gregory Johnson, who has been the marching band director for the past 15 years.

The band’s 2019-2020 performance schedule includes the Columbus Day Parade in Manhattan, New York, the QVC Holiday Parade in Westchester, Pennsylvania and the Newsday Marching Band Festival held at Hofstra University. Looking to the future, the group will also be performing in the Hollywood Christmas Parade in November 2020.
