More than 100 students from the Connetquot Central School District, along with coaches and counselors, were recently welcomed to the 2019 Thunder Tennis Academy in an effort to both learn new techniques and polish up on their skills in order to gain a lifetime of enjoyment from the popular sport.
Hosted by Connetquot High School tennis coach Ryan Cavanagh, this year’s participants are divided into two skill levels in bi-weekly evening sessions, which began on July 9 and runs through Aug. 22.
As a part of the annual summer program, the Thunder Tennis Academy is also able to raise and donate financial awards to graduating seniors who have been a part of the Connetquot High School varsity tennis program. The Jim Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the longtime teacher and former Connetquot High School tennis coach. According to coach Cavanagh, more than $6,000 in scholarship monies have been awarded to students thus far.
The district congratulates coach Cavanagh and his staff for providing the Connetquot community with the opportunity to learn valuable tennis skills in the midst of their summer vacation.
