Girls Track and Field Team Secures Massive Victory
Connetquot High School girls track and field coach James Crowley III is proud of his team’s 3-0 start this season. On April 3, the team hosted Lindenhurst High School, earning an impressive 115-34 win in front of a large and supportive home crowd.
Highlights from the track meet included Bryanna Holguin winning three victories in the high jump (5’1”), the triple jump (35’4”) and the 10-meter dash (13.4 seconds). Emily Medina won the 100-meter hurdles (16.7 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (27.1 seconds). Single-event winners were Maddie Amberger (800-meter run), Isabella Cottone (1,500-meter run) and Katie Iocca (400-meter hurdles), while Serena Roopnarine and Kinza Yasmeen tied for first place in the 1,500-meter walk.
Additionally, Olivia Blas won the shot put, Nia Callaway won the long jump, Emily Pfeuffer won the pole vault and Christina Pulitano won the discus. All in all, the T-Birds took home a big win against Lindenhurst and hope to continue their winning ways for the remainder of the season.
Boys Lacrosse Team Remains Undefeated at 4-0
The Connetquot High School boys lacrosse team defeated North Babylon High School by a final score of 18-1 at home on April 2, as the home team scored three goals in the first minute and kept the pressure on the visitors for the remainder of the game.
Connetquot Lacrosse coach Brett Jeffares had the opportunity to play everyone and provide game experience that will come in handy as the season progresses. Tyler Cordes had five goals and one assist, and eighth grader Jack Ponzio added four goals and two assists of his own. Additionally, Mike Ballinger, Michael Carere, Michael Maloney, Jared Pinto, Tom Sheehan, Kyle Strayer and Brian Zecchini also scored for the T-Birds. Ballinger, Jared Laible, Maloney, Tyler Moore, Zach Pizzimenti, Strayer and Derek Walter also combined for an additional 10 assists. Goaltenders Jack McAteer and Michael Monahan combined for eight saves in the game against North Babylon.
This win improves the team’s Suffolk County League I record to 4-0, while the visitors dropped to 1-4. The T-Birds’ next home game will be April 17 when they host Walt Whitman High School.
Baseball Team Claims Fourth Consecutive Win
Connetquot High School baseball coach Rob Burger was pleased with his team’s showing at the plate and on the field, as his T-Birds recently defeated the visitors from Walt Whitman High School by an impressive final score of 11-5.
With this fourth consecutive win under their belts, the T-Birds now hold sole possession of first place in Suffolk League II.
Josh McGee went 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs, while Alex Ungar, the winning pitcher with six strikeouts, went 2 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Additionally, Matt Brown-Eiring had a double and two RBIs for Connetquot, and Joey Zimmerman pitched two innings of no-hit relief.
The T-Birds scored seven runs in the second inning and played strong defense as they coasted to an 11-5 win. Way to go, T-Birds!
