Boys Lacrosse Team Earns Win Over Half Hollow Hills East

The Connetquot High School boys lacrosse team remains undefeated in League I play with their recent 7-6 win against Half Hollow Hills East High School at home on March 26. 

With the lead changing hands several times over the course of the game, it was Derek Walter’s goal with 5:37 left in the fourth quarter that proved to be the margin of victory.

Walter had three goals against the visitors, while his teammate Tyler Cordes added one goal and three assists. Additionally, Michael Carere went 11-15 in faceoffs, Mike Ballinger scored twice and eighth-grader Jack Ponzio contributed with a goal of his own.  Goaltender Jack McAteer was credited with eight saves during this highly exciting game.


Girls Golf Team Is Ready to Tee Off

The Connetquot High School girls golf team recently met for a prematch practice at the Holbrook Country Club to talk about the upcoming season. During the meeting, coaches Charlie Hafner and Jeff Tacke complimented the girls on their dedication and hard work early in the season, and assured them that these practices would reward the program with success.  

Additionally, the co-coaches were impressed with this year’s turnout and that so many seniors will be competing for Connetquot. Coach Hafner is counting on seniors Vanessa Bohl, Victoria D’Arcangelis, Gillian O’Donnell, Justine Rocchio, Erin Venth and Gianna Waldren to set the example and provide leadership for the newest members of the program.

The season begins on April 3 against Northport High School, and Hafner is especially happy to have Victoria D’Arcangelis and Justine Rocchio returning, as both student-athletes finished the 2018 season ranked among the top 15 high school golfers in Suffolk County. Girls Lacrosse Team Opens Season With Two Consecutive Wins

With the Connetquot High School girls lacrosse team’s win over Brentwood High School on March 27, the T-Birds open their season with two consecutive victories. Coach Piscitelli’s team got off to a strong start, scoring early and holding a commanding 10-0 lead at the half. Everyone was offered a chance to play in the second half, as the team ultimately walked away with a highly impressive 15-0 win over the visitors.

Nine T-Birds scored during the game, including multiple points contributed by Hayley Weltner (4), Jolie Urraro (3) and Katelynn Marx (2). Additionally, Karly Coletti, Morgan Elliott, Madison Feraca, Erin McLoughlin, Nicole Serravillo and Anna Thornton each scored one goal apiece. Anna Thornton also led both teams with three assists, while Kasey Karlsen and Sydney Danseglio each earned one save each against Brentwood.
The team now stands at 2-0 for the season, while Brentwood’s record is 1-0 in Suffolk County League I.


Girls Softball Team’s No-Hitter Leads to 14-0 Win

In a spectacular display of pitching and teamwork, the Connetquot High School girls softball team defeated Half Hollow Hills East High School at home by a final score of 14-0, giving up no hits and no runs.  

T-Bird pitchers Bella Andres and Jordan Cole combined their talents to contribute toward Connetquot’s big win. Andres allowed no walks and struck out eight batters in four innings, with Cole striking out three in her one inning of relief. Additionally, Rebecca Schwartz went 4-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Gabrielle Schmidt went 3-4 with two RBIs. 

The T-Birds scored 10 runs in the first inning and coasted the rest of the game, collecting 14 hits overall. Connetquot’s overall record now stands at an impressive 3-0.
