Weekly Sports Update - February 25-March 1, 2019

Track and Field All-Stars Invited to Elite Indoor Meet

The elite USATF Long Island Open & Masters Indoor Championship held at St. Anthony’s High School on Saturday, Feb. 23 invited Long Island’s finest male and female track and field student-athletes to participate. 

During the event, Connetquot High School student-athletes earned a number of impressive accolades and accomplishments. Bryanna Holguin improved her own Connetquot High School record in the triple-jump event with a jump of 38 feet 5 ½ inches. Sophomore Erin McLoughlin placed second in the long jump with a personal best of 17 feet 7 ¾ inches. Senior Serena Roopnarine placed sixth in the 1500-meter racewalk, while sophomore Emily Medina placed sixth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.75 seconds. With their outstanding performances at the meet, McLoughlin and Medina continue to climb the ladder towards the top of their field in New York State. Erin McLoughlin currently ranks No. 2 in New York State, while Emily Medina is right behind her at No. 3.

Boys track and field coach Shelby White was pleased with his team’s performances at St. Anthony’s as well. Matt Lopez placed fifth in the 1,000-meter dash with a time of 2:39.4, while pole vaulters Tom and Mike Domozych finished in second and third place, respectively, and newcomer Micah Cooper finished fifth among Long Island’s best pole vaulters.
