Important Calendar Update – New Senior Prom and Graduation Date

When developing the 2018-19 school calendar, the district was directed by New York State of the dates for the June 2019 Regents exams, which ran a week later in the month then we have traditionally experienced whereby bringing the end of the school year only a few short days away from the start of July. As per this information, the district developed a school calendar that met the exam schedule as well as planned for the traditional end of year activities for our seniors in accordance with past practice.

Recently, the district was informed that several seniors who will begin serving the nation in the armed forces immediately following graduation would not be able to attend the Senior Prom or Graduation Ceremony on the dates originally scheduled due to obligations beyond their control and related to their terms of service. While not unusual for students to deploy and/or report for duty quickly following graduation, the concern was that the late nature of this school year caused the Class of 2019’s important milestones to fall on the same dates as these mandated military report in dates.

Operating in the best interest of our students, and to ensure that all seniors have the same opportunity as their peers, the Board of Education has approved a change to the 2019 calendar. Connetquot High School’s graduation ceremony will now be Wednesday, June 26, 2019.  The commencement ceremony times will remain the same.  The mandatory graduation rehearsal will be Monday, June 24, 2019 starting promptly at 1:00 p.m.  As we move closer to graduation, the high school will be sending out graduation packets with all pertinent information.

The Senior Prom will now take place on Tuesday, June 25, 2019.  The location and time have not changed.  A letter will go out this spring with additional information.  Please note there are two New York State Regents exams scheduled for Tuesday June 25, 2019.  The Chemistry Regents exam will begin at 8:00 a.m. and Physics Regents exam will begin at 12:00 p.m.

Please take note of these changes and plan accordingly.  As a district, we look forward to celebrating all of our students as they mark these important milestones surrounded by friends and family. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation with this schedule adjustment.
