Students enrolled in Señora Eileen McGinnis’ ninth-grade Spanish honors classes from Connetquot High School recently had the privilege of visiting Ellis Island for a day full of celebrating the heritage and cultural aspects of immigrants entering America.
Arriving at Battery Park at 9 a.m., the students were ready to board the ferry to Ellis Island shortly after. While there, the students engaged in a scavenger hunt to familiarize themselves with the many exhibits which expanded their horizons on the topic. After departing Ellis Island, the students were given a beautiful view of the lady of the harbor herself, the Statue of Liberty.
At the conclusion of the trip, the students and staff members dined for a delicious Mexican lunch and shared stories of their productive and highly educational day. According to Señora McGinnis, the students are looking forward to their next field trip where they’ll be studying Spanish architecture at the Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport followed with an interactive lesson and lunch at Quetzalcoatl restaurant in Huntington.
