Boys Basketball Team Claims Victory

The Connetquot High School varsity boys basketball team came out victorious on Jan. 2, as the T-Birds maintained its undefeated conference record by defeating Walt Whitman High School 63-58 in overtime.

The teams were tied at 13 at the end of the first quarter, and Connetquot fell behind by 2 points at the half. However, the T-Birds were able to cut the deficit to 1 at the end of the third quarter. An impressive free throw by sophomore Jaden Kealey tied the score at 50 with seconds remaining, but it was Emmanuel Mondesire’s block of an opponent’s shot that forced the overtime.

In the four-minute extra period, Coach Tim Trava’s T-Birds outscored the visitors 13-8 for the win, improving its overall record to 6-2, while Whitman falls to 6-4.  
Top performers for the T-Birds included Taevon Bazemore, who finished the game with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Jaden Kealey scored 13, while Emmanuel Mondesire scored 10 and finished with a game-high 15 rebounds. Ryan Vaughn and Alex Unger chipped in with 8 points each, while Matt Brown-Eiring scored on his sole 3-point attempt.

Wrestling Team Honors Former Wrestlers

Connetquot High School wrestling coach Bill Santoro and his League II undefeated T-Birds welcomed Lindenhurst High School to the Connetquot High School gymnasium on Friday, Dec. 21, and were ultimately victorious by a final score of 48-27.

Before the featured Lindenhurst-Connetquot matchup, Coach Santoro called for the 30 attending alumni wrestlers to assemble on the mats, in front of family, friends and wrestling supporters. Coach Santoro introduced each member of the alumni, who included several All-American, All-County and All-State selections. Additionally, Coach Santoro, a championship wrestler for Connetquot in the mid-1960s, proudly mentioned the achievements of the alumni, many of whom coach in Long Island schools.

Top performers for the home team were Will Obert-Thorn, Dalton Otto and Steven Wilkinson. Following the match, alumni wrestlers mingled with their former teammates and family members, and shared experiences as well as praise for the 2018-2019 Connetquot wrestling team.
