Boys Golf Team Earns League I Championship Title

The Connetquot High School boys golf team finished the regular season with an impressive 11-2 overall record and a perfect 8-0 record in League I, thus winning the League I championships.
Senior Kyle Zere finished first place in League I and won the Conference I tournament on Oct. 22. Additionally, junior Tyler Zere was selected to the All-League team and finished fourth in the conference out of 66 players.

In more recent news, golf coach Gary Pesko reported that his varsity team competed in the Section XI championships at Rock Hill Country Club on Oct. 30-31 and that the T-Birds finished fourth in Suffolk County.

While at the championships, Tyler Zere shot 75 and 85 to finish fifth, while his brother Kyle shot 82 and 81 to finish tied for eighth place. Tyler and Kyle have qualified for the New York State championships to be held at Cornell University in June, being only two of nine total players from Suffolk County to qualify for them. Congratulations to Coach Pesko, Tyler and Kyle Zere and the entire varsity program for another outstanding season.

Girls Volleyball Team Advances in Suffolk County Playoffs

The Connetquot High School girls volleyball team took another step toward its goal of becoming New York State champions once again by advancing to the semifinals of the Suffolk County Championship Tournament.

Coach Justin Hertz and the student-athletes met a serious challenge from the visiting Sachem East High School team, winning the first and third match, but losing the second and fourth matches to the visitors. However, the T-Birds came on strong in the deciding match, winning by a final score of 25-16. The T-Birds now advance to the semifinals, facing Smithtown West High School at 5 p.m. on Nov. 6.

Gabrielle Carerre finished with 10 kills and 10 digs, while Julia Patsos chipped in with seven kills and 15 digs of her own. Katie Hickey also added five kills to contribute toward the team’s win.

Football Team Looks Forward to Postseason Games

Despite a fantastic display of athleticism, the Connetquot High School varsity football team’s season came to an end Oct. 27 with a loss to William Floyd High School. However, there is still hope, as the postseason is set to begin Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. against Sachem East High School in the first round of the Suffolk County Championship Tournament.

The T-Birds will test its 6-2 regular season record and No. 3 ranking against the Sachem East team, which is seeded No. 6. Connetquot will look to bounce back from its loss to William Floyd, knowing that a win against Sachem East will propel it into the semifinals of the Division I Suffolk County championships. Good luck, T-Birds!

Boys Volleyball Season Comes to an End

The Connetquot High School boys varsity volleyball team completed its most successful season in a decade with an impressive 9-5 record, qualifying it for the Suffolk County Championship Tournament. Despite its loss to Ward Melville High School in straight sets Oct. 31, Connetquot’s supporters were impressed with the team’s energy and efforts all season long.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lynda G. Adams was on hand to cheer on the athletes, and congratulated them afterward for their outstanding effort throughout the season.  Despite their loss in the opening round of the tournament, Coach Perry and her players are proud of what they have accomplished this season.

Congratulations to the Connetquot boys volleyball team on such a successful year, and a special thank-you to the graduating seniors for their leadership.
