District Hosts Annual Kicks for Cancer Event
Close to 100 players and coaches, including members of the Connetquot varsity and junior varsity soccer teams, took part in the program’s annual Kicks for Cancer Clinic on Oct. 8, raising $1,200 in the fight against cancer.
Kicks for Cancer is a program that began in Hauppauge in 2008 to support Courtney Tomkin, a student who had been diagnosed with brain cancer. The event has grown exponentially in Suffolk County as soccer teams across the county have signed on to raise money for various cancer organizations, such as the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Making Headway Foundation and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Over the years, Kicks for Cancer has raised and donated more than $235,000 to participating charities.
The district would like to thank coach Ryan Cavanagh, his staff and the dedicated young ladies of the Connetquot soccer program for their contributions to Kick for Cancer this year.
