Football Team Tackles Its Way to Homecoming Win

Under a cloudless, beautiful sky, the Connetquot High School football team celebrated homecoming weekend by defeating Walt Whitman High School with a convincing score of 36-14, with roaring support from the community. 

T-Birds quarterback Drew Guttieri completed 11 of 20 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 77 yards and scoring a touchdown. Tyler Cordes carried the ball 19 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, Jon Dale gained 61 yards and a touchdown on four receptions, while Devon Danz rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown. By halftime, Connetquot led by a commanding score of 30-0.

With this win under its belt, the T-Birds improved its overall season record to 3-1.

Girls Tennis Team Secures Spot in Championship Tournament

Despite a 6-1 loss to Islip High School on Oct. 2, the Connetquot High School girls varsity tennis team earned a spot in the 2018 Suffolk County championship tournament, finishing the regular season in third place with a record of 8-5.

Matchups for the Suffolk County tournament will be announced soon, and coach Amy Cohen believes her athletes are ready for the challenge.  

“We had a great season with many close matches,” Cohen said. “The girls worked hard and played well. We will miss our graduating seniors, and thanks [go to] Deanna Arndts, Katie Mills, Amy Hartman, Olivia Esposito and Lauren Kennedy for their maturity and leadership.”

Girls Volleyball Team Outscores Riverhead HS 3-0

The Connetquot High School girls volleyball team, along with coach Justin Hertz and the T-Bird community, celebrated Senior Night on Oct. 3 by defeating Riverhead High School in straight sets of 25-19, 25-9 and 25-12.    
Connetquot seniors Kendall Lillie and Alex Parillo were presented with flowers and gifts, and were showered with affection by their teammates and coaching staff. 

With this win under its belt, Connetquot improved its record to 7-1. While Kendall and Alex inspired their team with their leadership, junior Julia Patsos and sophomore Kylie Wixted led the team with nine and six kills, respectively. 

The team ranks second in Suffolk County League II and improved its season record to 7-1 with this victory. 

Boys Soccer Team Plays Fantastic Game

The Connetquot High School varsity boys soccer team played an incredible game on Wednesday, Oct. 3 against Riverhead High School but ultimately came up short by a final score of 2-0. Despite six saves by the T-Birds’ goalie Kyle Monahan, the visitors led 1-0 at the half, and scored an additional goal during the second half. Connetquot’s League II overall record now stands at 3-8-0.
