First- through fifth-grade students at John Pearl Elementary School recently contributed their artistic talents to a beautiful mural which now resides in the school’s hallway, inspired by the popular children’s book “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds.

Students in Krystal Zaglool’s art classes linked the book’s thematic elements to the district’s mindfulness initiative by discussing the benefits of having a positive mindset. The young artists then collaborated with their art supplies in hand to leave their mark on a series of six large paintings, which have since been colorfully decorated and secured safely on display the schools’ hallways.

“The Dot” tells the story of a young student named Vashti, who after doubting her artistic ability comes to realize that a series of the smallest marks can sometimes lead to the biggest and most beautiful of creations.
