Varsity Football Team Starts Out Strong

The Connetquot High School football team recently defeated Patchogue-Medford High School at home in a stunning display of athleticism on Sept. 7. 

The T-Birds held an 8-0 advantage at the half and finished the game on top by a final score of 15-6. With this win secured, Connetquot now stands with a season record of 1-0. 

Junior quarterback Drew Guttieri, who is 6 feet, 2 inches tall, completed 16 of 26 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns to lead the T-Birds against Patchogue-Medford High School. Additionally, Drew connected with Lucas Quinlan for an 88-yard touchdown pass to give Connetquot the 15-6 lead with 1:45 left in the third quarter. Lucas had four catches for 104 yards and Cole Bunicci had four receptions for 31 yards, along with a touchdown. Cole was also credited with 12 tackles, while Alex Szczepansi added 11 of his own and Chris Danisi contributed eight to go along with two additional sacks.

During halftime, members of the 2008 Long Island championship team were honored for their outstanding achievements.

Coach Mike Hansen and his staff were pleased with the team’s outstanding effort against Patchogue-Medford and believe this could be the beginning of yet another exciting season of Connetquot High School football. 

Volleyball Team Bumps Into the Top Spot

The Connetquot High School girls volleyball team recently defeated Walt Whitman High School at home on Sept. 7 in three consecutive sets.

T-Bird Gabriella Carere had six kills, while teammate Lauren Konzen contributed eight digs to lead the team in their League II win. Connetquot’s record now stands at an impressive 2-0. 

Coach Justin Hertz, along with assistants Katie Baker and Karen Edwards, retired eight veterans from last year’s New York State championship team, but welcomed eight newcomers to the team, including eighth-grade student Lauren Konzen.

The Connetquot High School girls volleyball team ended the 2017 season undefeated, having won the league, Suffolk County, Long Island and New York State championships.

Boys Soccer Team Comes Up Short 

Despite its best efforts, the Connetquot High School boys soccer team was defeated by Walt Whitman High School by a final score of 6-0 on Sept. 12.

Coach Nick Sturtz expects the team to regroup, build on this game’s positives and come back strong as the season progresses. T-Bird goalies Kyle Monahan had nine saves, while Thomas Foschino had five.

Girls Tennis Team Triumphs

The Connetquot High School girls varsity tennis team defeated West Islip High School at home on Sept. 13 by a final score of 7-0, improving its overall record to 4-1.

Katie Mills and Amy Hartman got the team off to a positive start by winning their first doubles match. Additionally, Samantha Lankowicz won her first singles match for the T-Birds. Coach Amy Cohen was pleased with the team’s overall effort and looks forward to another successful season of tennis.
