In an effort to ensure that elementary-level students have a smooth transition into the new school year, members of Connetquot High School’s Helping Hands Club recently filled 42 backpacks to the brim with essential school supplies for each elementary building.

The altruistic students raised money to buy the supplies by selling bottles of water during the Connetquot High School commencement ceremony held this past June. Along with the 20 backpacks and supplies purchased by the club, an additional 22 backpacks were donated by means of the Connetquot Foundation for the Advancement of Children.

The contents of the backpacks consisted of notebooks, crayons, pencils, erasers, folders and numerous other essential classroom items.

School supply donations were also collected at the Apple Bank located on Veterans Highway in Ronkonkoma, thanks to Georgette Bauch, AVP and Branch Manager. Both the club, along with co-advisers Lynn Parks and Susan Schiappa, highly appreciate the bank and Connetquot communities’ support with this effort.
