Connetquot High School students enrolled in Alaina Bennett’s health classes were recently paid a visit by Donna Cioffi and Linda Bonnano of the “Got Checked” organization, as they spoke to the students about breast cancer awareness and the proper screening techniques beneficial toward saving lives.
Both Mrs. Cioffi and Mrs. Bonnano are breast cancer survivors and co-founders of the organization formed in 2015 geared toward spreading the word that early detection can save lives. Through the use of music, videos, fitness and school assemblies, they encourage students to converse amongst their friends and family members to be aware of any sudden changes they might notice in their bodies.
Students were asked to sign a pledge in an effort to pass the word along, and to get into the habit of self-examination.
