Third-graders enrolled in Jill Burns’ and Sarah Wilson’s classes at Sycamore Avenue Elementary School recently showcased their completed nonfiction writing projects to parents, teachers and district administrators during an afternoon celebration held at the school.
The students spent time in the classroom, library and at home researching a topic they were interested in and wanted to write about. Selected topics included travel, culture, occupations, sports and leisure activities.
Throughout the process, the students learned how to use information presented in a variety of nonfiction material that they are exposed to every day, such as books, newspapers, brochures, magazines, recipes and maps.
