Baseball Team Celebrates Senior Night With a Win

After an impressive 9-3 win over Sachem North High School, the Connetquot High School varsity baseball team will be making its way to the Suffolk County playoffs. With this win under its belt, the T-Birds now sit in second place in League II with an overall record of 12-6. Making the win that much more meaningful was the recognition of the graduating student-athletes, from both teams, during a Senior Day celebration held prior to the start of the game.

The T-Birds took an early lead against the visitors by holding them scoreless in the first inning while scoring two runs of their own. Derek Yalon went 3 for 4 with an RBI to lead the T-Birds, along with sophomore Matt Brown-Eiring who went 3 or 3 with two RBIs in the win against Sachem North. Alex Ungar, the winning pitcher, helped his own cause by going 2 for 2 with a stolen base.
Coach Buderman took time prior to the game to recognize and thank each of the seniors for their leadership and the examples they have become to the younger members of the team. The seniors were called out individually and presented with gifts, and their mothers were presented with a rose as well.

Good luck in the Suffolk County playoffs!

Connetquot High School Boys Lacrosse Team Defeats Huntington High School on Senior Night

On May 4, the Connetquot High School boys lacrosse team defeated Huntington High School by a final score of 12-5. The team now sits at 9-3 in the challenging Suffolk County First Division.

The game began with an introduction of the seniors, the presentation of gifts for the players and a lovely rose for the moms that attended the game. Coach Brett Jeffares spoke to the supportive crowd about his team, and especially about the seniors who have worked and sacrificed for their teammates and the community. He thanked each of the players and their families for their dedication and continued support, wished those seniors continued success and assured them that he will be following each of them as they move on to the next level of athletics.

Leading scorers for Connetquot were GQ Grippo with four goals and two assists, along with Justin Crowe, Steven Pinto and George Wichelns with two goals each. Also scoring for the T-Birds were Zach Pizzimenti and Michael Carere. Carere also won 16 of 20 faceoffs, while Andrew Pinto made nine saves in goal.

Congratulations to the entire Connetquot High School boys varsity lacrosse team, and good luck as playoff season approaches!

Varsity Softball Team Wraps Up Incredible Season

The Connetquot High School varsity softball team finished its season with seven wins and came incredibly close to a playoff spot on the last day of the regular season, but Ward Melville High School stepped in to take the 4-3 win, thus bringing Connetquot’s season to an end.

Despite the loss, the T-Birds played a great game and made the visitors work for the win. The Patriots took an early 4-0 lead, as the T-Birds quickly came back with three late-inning runs but ultimately fell short. Connetquot was led by their only two seniors, Jaclyn Kateridge and Julianna Prescia.

The last home game of the season was used to celebrate the program’s graduating student-athletes, and the loss to Ward Melville did not dampen the outpouring of love and affection for Jaclyn and Julianna. Teammates created posters and T-shirts honoring their graduating seniors, as parents and friends attended this last home game to celebrate the seniors’ dedication to the program.

Congratulations to the coaching staff and the 2018 varsity softball team for exceeding expectations, and a sincere thank-you to the graduating seniors and their families for their dedication to the program’s growing success.
