The district recently hosted its seventh annual Library Literacy Celebration at Connetquot High School, inviting district staff, administrators, students and their families to witness a culmination of literary displays and projects from students of all district elementary schools.
Throughout the halls of the high school, various makerspace tables were lined up for students to engage in, containing activities such as team-based poetry, creating artwork from their thumb prints and designing illustrations with assistance from students of Connetquot High School’s art program.
In the auditorium, audience members were treated to a special presentation from alumni John Aldridge and Anthony Sosinski, authors of the popular nonfiction work “A Speck in the Sea,” which chronicles Mr. Aldridge’s tragic experience while working on a fishing boat off the coast of Long Island.
Additionally, representatives from the Connetquot Public Library were on hand to speak to students and their families about the important benefits of reading a good book, as was Alyssa Gangeri, children’s author of the “Mimi’s Adventures” baking book series.
