Connetquot High School 11th- and 12th-grade health classes recently discussed the dangers and consequences of driving while impaired during a recent visit with Suffolk County Sheriff’s Deputies Thomas Indence and Keith Marinelli.

The officers spoke about New York State’s Leandra’s Law, which makes it an automatic felony on the first offense to drive drunk with a person who is 15 years of age or younger. Indence and Marinelli also discussed the negative effect that drugs and alcohol have on judgement, vision and reaction time, along with the consequences that such actions could have on one’s personal life. Special goggles were also used by several students to mimic the effect alcohol and drugs would have on them.
