Your child’s school is scheduled to participate in the grade 3-8 New York State ELA Assessment on April 11 and April 12 and the grade 3-8 New York State Mathematics Assessment on May 1 and May 2.

If you have chosen to refuse the exam for your child, acceptable in-school activities such as silent reading, writing, coloring, drawing, or a puzzle book such as Sudoku, crossword, or word search are allowed. Although the exams are untimed, students should bring enough material to school with them for approximately 60 - 90 minutes per day.

In order to ensure a quiet working environment for all students, please do not send electronic devices, or food for them to have during the examination period.  (Water bottles, however, are acceptable.)

We would also like you to know that according to New York State, once your child begins any part of the exam, the exam counts and is no longer considered a refusal.

Lastly, if you plan to refuse the exam for your child, and have not done so already, please notify your child’s principal as soon as possible, so that we can ensure that we have the best possible plan in place for all of our students.

We thank you for your ongoing help and support.
