Students at Connetquot Central School District’s Cherokee Street Elementary School were recently visited by Teachers Federal Credit Union representative Jennifer Gunn as she spoke to the students about saving, spending, sharing and earning money.
After reading a popular children’s book, “The Berenstain Bears Visit the Credit Union” to the students, Mrs. Gunn answered questions about credit unions, how they can help students protect their money, and actually earn interest on their deposits. Mrs. Gunn also told the students that she had worked together with Cherokee Street Principal Jill Lahey to start a program, which would bring a TFCU teller to Cherokee on a weekly basis to help students begin their savings experience.
