The 45 fourth- and fifth-grade participants of Duffield’s Drama Club recently put on a wonderful performance of the Dr. Seuss themed musical, “Seussical,” before a cheering crowd.
Under the direction of teachers Karen Pitka and Michael Innace, the young performers rehearsed twice a week after school for about 10 weeks leading up to the performance.
This production was brought to life with assistance from the Connetquot Foundation for the Advancement of Children, as a grant was awarded and used to purchase the “Seussical” show kit, which included scripts and the musical accompaniment. Additionally, with generous support of the school’s PTA, the colorful world of Dr. Seuss came alive through the use of props and scenery decorations.
The show starred Adam Aurelio as Horton the Elephant; Molly Murphy as JoJo; Ava Ross, Emily Sherman, Athena Raimondi as Cats in the Hat and Lily Jonas as Gertrude McFuzz. Additional students supported these actors throughout the production and helped to add many comedic elements to the show.
