Members of the Connetquot High School Art Club and National Art Honor Society recently drew inspiration from the work of Willem de Kooning as they took part in an in-depth workshop with representatives of the Long Island Children's Museum.

After both learning and examining the work of the artist, the students created a series of life drawings using him as inspiration. The students enhanced their original pieces of work by painting the composition on canvas using materials provided by the LICM.

They were also joined by Lauren Plate, 2010 Connetquot High School graduate and current LICM art program manager, along with teachers John Hargrave and Ross Grandin, all of whom assisted throughout the workshop.

The students’ completed projects will be on display at the LICM from June 2- July 1, with an opening reception taking place on June 8, from 6-8 p.m.
