Wear Purple Day

In celebration of the upcoming American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event taking place at Connetquot High School on Friday, June 8, the district will be taking part in Wear Purple Day on Wednesday, March 28 to raise awareness of the important event.

Students, faculty, staff members, administrators, and community members throughout the district are encouraged to wear purple clothing in honor of the special day. As a fun added component to the initiative, Connetquot High School Principal Kenneth Costa has volunteered to be taped to a wall in the hallway near the school’s gymnasium on Wear Purple Day. As part of the “Duct Tape the Principal” fundraising event, students who donate $1 or more will be given a piece of tape which will be used to secure Mr. Costa safely to the wall.
All proceeds collected during this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society to support its efforts to provide education and patient services to those diagnosed with cancer and their families, in addition to funding life-saving research.

So far this year, the district has raised close to $7,000 toward its goal of exceeding last year’s total amount of $63,000. To date, 27 teams have registered for the June 8 event. Anyone interested in joining the cause is encouraged to register at www.relayforlife.org/ConnetquotNY.
