Wrestling Team Concludes Successful Season

Coach Santoro, his staff and the Connetquot High School wrestling team, comprised of 62 dedicated student-wrestlers, ended the season with another outstanding dual meet record of 10-3.

The T-Birds were League II co-champions, and again qualified for the Suffolk County dual championships. Among the Connetquot wrestlers were 12 All-League selections, as well as three All-Suffolk county selections, including student-athletes Eddie Macario, Will Obert and Steve Wilkinson.
Congratulations to the Connetquot High School coaching staff and the dedicated student-athletes that continue the T-Bird championship tradition.

Connetquot High School Girls Varsity Volleyball Team Unfurls 2017 Championship Banners

The Connetquot High School girls’ volleyball team, along with Coach Justin Hertz, district administration and their dedicated family members, recently gathered at Connetquot High School on Feb. 26 to unfurl the team’s 2017 championship banner.

After hosting a dinner in the Connetquot High School “new” gymnasium, Coach Hertz reviewed the season, unfurled the colorful championship banner and thanked the Connetquot Teacher’s Association for presenting each member of the team and staff with championship rings.
Connetquot finished the regular season undefeated (18-0) and went on to win the league, Suffolk County and Long Island championships, which earned the team another trip to the New York State Championship Tournament. Despite the fact that several senior student-athletes will be graduating and have made their college commitments, Coach Hertz believes that this year’s seniors have provided the leadership necessary to continue the program’s winning tradition.

The following seniors will be moving on to the next level and have committed to help improve the volleyball programs at the following schools: Daniella Balsano, Quinnipiac University; Mackenzie Cole, Duke University; Nicole Migliozzi, Quinnipiac University; Cassandra Patsos, Iona College and Mackenzie Taylor, Providence College.

Congratulations to the members of the Connetquot High School girls’ volleyball team, and thank you for bringing the New York State volleyball championship back to Connetquot!

Connetquot High School Cheerleaders Reach National Semifinals

Congratulations to the Connetquot High School co-ed cheerleading team for advancing to the final round in a division of 41 teams from around the United States at the UCA National High School Cheerleading championship.

“They hit three of their best performances of the season,” said coach Kelly Unterweiser.  “The team finished in the top five, which is the best placement for a Connetquot team in history. They were absolutely incredible to watch, and I am so proud of all of the cheerleaders.”

Additionally, the T-Birds returned to Long Island to compete in the Suffolk County championships and finished strongly in fourth place among all of the competing county schools. Congratulations to Coach Unterweiser, her staff and the school’s talented student-athletes for their hard work and dedication this season. The T-Bird’s performances at the national tournament can be viewed on ESPN in April.

Two Connetquot High School Swimmers Qualify for NYS Competition

Connetquot High School swim and dive coach Alex Scicchilione recently announced that two of his swimmers qualified for the New York State championships to be held at the Nassau Aquatic Center on March 2. The two All-County student-athletes, sophomore Grady Olsen and junior Dylan Macejko, recently qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships based on their incredible talents.

Grady will swim the 100-yard butterfly stroke, while Dylan will compete in the
50-yard freestyle, along with the 100-yard backstroke.

The T-Birds ended the season with an impressive 7-3 record, and Grady and Dylan are hoping to extend the season by bringing back state titles for their team.

Congratulations to the Connetquot High School swim and dive team, and best of luck to Grady Olsen and Dylan Macejko at the upcoming competition!
