Connetquot Track & Field Athletes Invited to NYS Qualification Meet

Twenty-four Connetquot High School student-athletes were invited to participate in the New York State Qualification Track Meet, held at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on Feb. 12, based on their performance over the course of the winter track season.

“Sadly, none of our athletes earned a trip to the New York State Track Meet this year, but we came close,” said girls track coach James Crowley III. “Marina Skelly anchored the 4x200-meter relay that placed third in tonight’s competition, but only the first two teams earned a spot in the state competition.”

Connetquot’s 4x200 relay team consisted of Ali Hardie, Bryanna Holguin, Erin McLoughlin and Skelly. Skelly also finished in an impressive third place in the pole vault at 9 feet, 6 inches, but only the top two qualifiers will advance to the state meet.

For the boys team, Connetquot’s varsity 4x800 relay team ended the night with an impressive fifth-place finish, with a time of 8:31.71. While the team didn’t earn a spot in the state meet, the boys look forward to improving their time and the challenge of earning a state invitation in 2019. Congratulations to Kelby Bishop-Scioli, Dominick Katrivanos, Matthew Lopez and Brandon McCormick on their outstanding efforts.
