Boys Basketball Team Moves Closer to Playoffs With Another Win

The Connetquot High School boys basketball team picked up its ninth win of the season on Jan. 23 with a final score of 55-50 against Walt Whitman High School, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Seth Goumba led Connetquot scorers with 16 points, followed by Taylor Stepanek with 10, Dylan Waring with 10, Ryan Vaughn with 8 and Eric Leo with 6. The T-Birds outscored the visitors 13-8 in the final quarter to earn the 55-50 win, moving one step closer to a playoff berth.

Senior Taylor Stepanek, who is 6 feet 4 inches tall, also contributed with 14 rebounds, while Seth Goumba was credited with five rebounds and five assists to go along with his 16 points.  



Connetquot High School Ice Hockey Team Outscores Middle Island  

The Connetquot-Sayville ice hockey team won its seventh game of the season on Jan. 24 at the Rinx by a final score of 8-5 against the Middle Island Cougars, securing a playoff position for the team this season. This was an outstanding effort on the part of the T-Birds on a special night dedicated to the team’s graduating seniors.

Britt Bishoff earned a hat trick, scoring three goals, and picking up two assists along the way. Team captain Joey Cannizaro finished the game with two goals and one assist. Additionally, T-Birds Ricky Frosch, Chris Hays, Jeremy Hirsch, Jack McAteer, Connor Nilan, Brian Paris, Mark Radzewsky and Dylan Vigna and each picked up assists of their own. Goalie Ty Scheibe had 22 saves on goal, and was a huge contributing factor toward the teams’ win.

Congratulations to each of the players, coaches and supportive fans, and a thank-you to the graduating student-athletes who have been an inspiration to the Connetquot-Sayville ice hockey program: Nick Adamo, Joseph Cannizzaro, Richard Fizuoglio, Christopher Hays, Jeremy Hirsch (Sayville), Andre Leo, Thomas Petrozzella (Smithtown), Sam Riggs and Peter Rodgers. 


Girls Basketball Team Loses Close Game to Riverhead High School

The Connetquot High School girls basketball team hosted the Riverhead High School Blue Waves on Jan. 19, as the visiting team came away with a win by a final score of 60-47 over the T-Birds.

Connetquot fans continue to believe in the promising student-athletes, and with several games left on the schedule there is still an outside chance of the team earning a playoff spot. Student-athletes Emma Bunicci, Victoria Darcangelis, Karly Hokenson and Victoria O’Toole kept the home team within reach for the win with large contributions of their own.

Coaches Ecke, Hafner and Piscitelli continue to see improvement and encourage their T-birds to be positive and continue to work together as the season winds down.
