As an extension to their English Language Arts curriculum, fifth-grade students from Annamarie Damore’s and Jeanne Cardone’s classes at John Pearl Elementary School recently came together for a collaborative literary lesson, Small Moments, as they shared their original pieces of work amongst one another.
While meeting together, the students revised each other’s work, offering suggestions to strengthen their peers’ stories. With help from one another, the students crafted brilliant stories focusing on literary elements such as character and plot development and figurative language. Some topics their work featured included detailing their first day at a new school, the excitement of attending their first hockey game and a chronicle of being stung by a bee and how to treat the irritation.
