Boys Swimming and Diving Team Wins Home Opener
The Connetquot High School boys swimming and diving team began its season on a high note, coming out on top by a score of 92-85 over the combined Huntington/Harborfields High School team on Dec. 4.
Dylan Macejko won both the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter freestyle. Tom Loos won the 500-meter freestyle, and Grady Olsen contributed to the victory by winning the 100-meter fly and 100-meter backstroke. Additionally, the Connetquot divers took second, third and fourth place against the visitors.
Girls Basketball Team Loses Close Game
The Connetquot High School girls basketball team recently fell to the Centereach High School Cougars by a score of 43-41, to even their record at 1-1. Despite their loss, there was excitement throughout the game as the lead changed hands a dozen times, leaving the score tied at 37 points at the end of regulation time. Despite some exciting moments throughout the game, including a three-point basket by freshman Jenna Erdman with five seconds left in overtime, Centereach held on for the win.
Emma Bunicci led Connetquot with 10 points, while Alexis Brown and Jenna Erdman chipped in with nine and seven of their own, respectively. Coach Charlie Hafner encouraged the girls throughout the game and complimented them for the excitement and enthusiasm they bring to the game.
Coaches Ecke, Hafner and Piscitelli see great potential in this group of T-Birds and look forward to the rest of the season.
