Girls Gymnastics Team Finishes Third in Suffolk County Championship Tournament

The Connetquot High School girls gymnastics team finished the regular season undefeated with a stunning record of 11-0, placing it among the top six schools in Suffolk County, and finished in third place in the Suffolk County Championship Tournament on Nov. 7, hosted by Smithtown East High School.  

A lively and supportive section of the T-Birds supporters provided it with the encouragement to put on a wonderful exhibition in vault, bars, beam and floor events. Student-athletes Sarah Moussa and Alexis Smith led the T-Bird effort in the championship competition, with Sarah taking fifth place (34.95) in the all-around category, while Alexis finished ninth (34.025).

Tournament officials, along with Connetquot’s own fans, complimented the members of the 2017 gymnastics team for their poise, grace and execution this season. 

“I am so very proud of this year’s team,” said coach Renee Guerrieri. “The kids are where they are because of their incredible parents.” 

Congratulations to the talented members of the girls gymnastics team, coaches Guerrieri and Tutone, and their proud families for an outstanding season that has made their community so proud of them.

Girls Volleyball Team Secures Suffolk County AA Title

Congratulations to the Connetquot High School girls volleyball team for securing its fourth consecutive Suffolk County AA title!

Prior to its big win, the T-Birds played in front of a large and supportive home crowd on Nov. 6, sweeping the Sachem East High School team in three straight sets to win the semifinal match.

The T-Birds outscored the visitors 25-12, 25-12 and 25-17 to maintain its undefeated record at 16-0, and set up the championship match against Commack High School. 

Connetquot’s All-American Mackenzie Cole had five aces in this semifinal win. Additionally, Nicole Migliozzi was credited with 28 assists while Cassandra Patsos had 12 kills. 

During the Suffolk County AA championship match at Suffolk Community College, Brentwood campus, the T-Birds team swept the #2 seeded Commack High School to win its fourth consecutive AA title on Nov. 9 in front of its largest crowd of the season, in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-19.  

Connetquot advances to the Long Island championship at SCCC to face Nassau County champions Long Beach High School at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 11.

The team was led by Daniella Balsano’s 15 digs, Cassandra Patsos’ 13 kills and Nicole Migliozzi’s 35 assists. Under Armour All-American Mackenzie Cole contributed with 15 digs and 11 kills, while Mackenzie Taylor added 14 digs and 10 kills to contribute toward the win.

The T-Birds remain undefeated at 17-0, while Commack finished the season at 15-1.  Congratulations to the T-Birds and good luck in the Long Island championship on Nov. 11!

Varsity Football Team Advances to Suffolk County Semifinals

The Connetquot High School Varsity Football team advanced to the semifinal round of the Suffolk County Championship Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 11, due to an impressive 36-20 win against Ward Melville High School. 

George Wichelns had 10 receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns; he also picked up 45 yards on the ground. Quarterback Dylan McDermott completed 24 of 37 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns. Taylor Stepanek had eight catches for 111 yards, and GQ Grippo had four receptions for 57 yards. Additionally, Cole Bunicci had one reception for 11 yards, 10 tackles, two interceptions and made a 28-yard field goal for the T-Birds.

Connetquot, which is seeded #4, will visit #1 seed Lindenhurst on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m. The semifinal winners will meet at Stony Brook University on Nov. 18 at 4:00 p.m. for the Suffolk County Division I Football championship. Good luck, T-Birds! 

Connetquot High School Golf Team Completes Undefeated Season

The Connetquot High School boys golf team recently completed its season with an undefeated record of 11-0, earning the following titles: League I champions, League I Tournament champions and Conference champions during the fall 2017 season.

Additionally, Coach Gary Pesko is proud to announce the selection of his players for individual awards this season, including Robert Caradonna (All-League), Riley McDonnell (All-League), TJ Mirabal (All-League and All-Conference), Kyle Zere (League champion, Conference champion, All-County and New York State Qualifier) and Tyler Zere (All-League and All-Conference).

Congratulations to the Connetquot golf team, and good luck to Kyle Zere, who will be competing in the New York State tournament in June 2018.
