Boys Cross-Country Team Celebrates Seniors

Connetquot High School cross-country coach Shelby White recently arranged for a special evening celebration for the team, in which he thanked his graduating senior athletes. Coach White took the time to review the season to date, as they look forward to the State Qualifying meet tonight.

“This was an extremely competitive schedule for Connetquot this year,” he said. “The only invitational in which we had every one of our athletes healthy enough to compete was at the Suffolk Officials Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park, where our freshmen finished an outstanding second place out of 10 teams, while the varsity athletes placed fifth out of 22 teams. Senior Brandon McCormick crossed the line first in that race more than 20 seconds ahead of the competition, and finished with a season-best of 17:36 in the 5K competition.”

The T-Birds had outstanding performances by senior Brandon McCormick, sophomore Kelby Bishop and junior Matthew Lopez, with all three student-athletes qualifying for the New York State meet in early November.

Congratulations and thank you to this year’s graduating seniors: Alan Abreu, Joseph Amarando, Sean Cudia, Jacob DeRosa, Matthew Downing, John Hatt, Zach Kalish, Ryan Maguire, Brandon McCormick, Sean McNamee, Giridhar Mula, Timothy Munsinger, Vincent Paluzzi, Jason Reynolds, Joseph Schenk and Nick Sciame.

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, the Connetquot Ladies Volleyball team hosted Centereach High School in the quarterfinals of the Suffolk County AA Championship Tournament, ultimately winning the match in three straight sets (25-10, 25-17, 25-10) to improve their record to 15-0, and move on to the semifinals scheduled for Monday, Nov. 6 at home.

Seeded number one in the AA tournament against the number eight Centereach team, the T-Birds were led by Daniella Balsano, who had 19 digs, Cassandra Patsos, who had 12 kills and Kiarra Rotah, who led the team with four blocks.

Coach Justin Hertz, along with assistants Jesse Kalbfleisch and Karen Edwards, were pleased with the team’s energy and cohesion throughout the match. The team is working hard to maintain its undefeated status, hoping to repeat as Suffolk County AA champions, with the ultimate goal of earning an invitation to Albany and a chance to repeat as New York State champions.

Good luck, ladies; the Connetquot community is already so very proud of your efforts this season!
