Connetquot’s Girls Volleyball Team Remains Undefeated

The Connetquot High School girls volleyball team continued its undefeated streak with a 3-0 decision at home against visiting Lindenhurst. Mackenzie Cole had 17 “kills,” while Mackenzie Taylor earned nine “kills” and had eight digs.

Coach Justin Hertz was pleased with the team’s effort and thanked the large crowd for its support, as the game also served as a fundraiser for a local family from Lindenhurst whose daughter is battling a brain tumor.

“We raised $2,600 today in an effort to help the family,” said Coach Hertz. “I’d like to extend a special thanks to Dawn Migliozzi for all her help in organizing the concession stand and coordinating with other parents to make this event so successful.”

Coach Hertz also sent a special thanks to George Wichelns, winner of the $675 fifty-fifty raffle, who would not accept the cash, and donated it back to the event.

The Connetquot High School varsity volleyball program has gone undefeated on Long Island for the last two seasons, having won the 2015 New York State championship.  With five potential future Division I players on this year’s roster (Daniella Balsano, Mackenzie Cole, Nicole Migliozzi, Cassandra Patsos, Mackenzie Taylor) as reported by Newsday and the coaching staff, there is realistic optimism that the title is within reach again.

“The varsity gymnastics team is young, but has good depth,” said Coach Guerrieri. “We compete in a very challenging League I and anticipate tough competition. We have a great deal of potential on this year’s team, and I am looking forward to an exciting, successful season.”
