In an effort to give back to their community and ensure that elementary students are ready to begin a successful school year in September, members of Connetquot High School’s Helping Hands Club recently volunteered their time to create back-to-school care packages for students in need throughout the district’s seven elementary schools.

As a result of the effort, the club filled 36 backpacks with crayons, rulers, notebooks, folders and glue sticks.

In order to raise funds for the school supplies, students held after-school pizza sales during the school year, a fundraiser at Crazy Crepe Café of Ronkonkoma, and sold bottled water at the Connetquot High School graduation ceremony this past June.

Under the guidance of club advisers Lynn Parks and Susan Schiappa, students work diligently throughout the year to volunteer and lend a helping hand within the school community.
