Students in Tiffany Prin’s Life Skills class at Ronkonkoma Middle School learned about the important role of service dogs when Mrs. Prin’s husband, Thomas Prin, recently visited with his personal service dog Halona to conduct an in-class presentation.

Throughout the duration of the visit, the students were able to ask questions regarding how Halona assists Mr. Prin in his everyday life, and were even treated to demonstrations by Halona herself as she obeyed commands such as “heel,” “fetch” and “speak.”
Recognizing the significant impact these animals can have on a person’s life, the class made a $105 donation to Canine Companies for Independence, a nonprofit organization which assists those with disabilities. The students collected these donations through a school recycling effort that they spearheaded.
