After spending months studying the events of the Holocaust, eighth-grade students enrolled in Kenneth Leman’s honors history class at Ronkonkoma Middle School recently applied their extensive knowledge of the time period to create an informative historical timeline along the back wall of their classroom.

The students put in the effort to chronicle Holocaust-oriented details such as Kristallnacht and concentration camps, including photographs for visual reference.

Additionally, within the center of the timeline was a giant shape of a butterfly made out of thousands of buttons representing the millions of victims who perished.

According to Mr. Leman, this project was implemented not only to give the students extensive understanding of the Holocaust and surrounding events, but to also show them that these types of actions should never be tolerated and the importance of standing up for the oppressed.
