Coach Bob Ambrosini Makes Connetquot History with Assistance from the Baseball Team

As a follow-up to their recent win against Sachem North, The Connetquot High School baseball team took home a victory against Bay Shore High School on May 9 with a 6-3 win and a County Playoff bid, all the while helping Coach Ambrosini make history as he accomplished his 602nd career win spanning his 33-year run as the coach of the Connetquot baseball team.

Senior athlete Chris Ryan gave up just five hits and struck out three batters over the course of five innings. Reliever John O’Connell came into the game with the bases loaded, two outs and Connetquot up 4-3, and his fastball got Bay Shore’s Hermes Abreu to hit a line drive to end the inning. Sophomore Jared Yalon went 2-3 with two RBIs and sophomore Lucas Quinlin added two doubles including a two-run double that gave Connetquot a three-run cushion against Bay Shore.

Ambrosini, a 1970 Connetquot HS graduate, has been varsity baseball coach at his alma mater since 1983. His teams have won 21 league and seven AA titles, four Long Island Championships and two New York State titles during his tenure. ‘Coach Ambro’ has been named Suffolk County Coach of the Year seven times and was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. While hundreds of his student-athletes have gone on to play at the next level, the following have signed to play professional baseball - Rob Grable and Matt Guiliano (Philadelphia Phillies), two of Ambrosini’s sons, Dominick Ambrosini and Anthony Ambrosini (Montreal Expos), BJ LaMura (Toronto Blue Jays) and Rob Zachman (Seattle Mariners).

Congratulations again to the members of the Connetquot High School varsity baseball team and coach Ambrosini; best of luck as you begin the upcoming Suffolk County Playoff Tournament!
