The district recently hosted its sixth annual Library Literacy Celebration at Connetquot High School, inviting district staff, administrators, students and their families to witness a culmination of literary displays and projects from students of all district elementary schools.

Throughout the halls of the high school, various makerspace tables were lined up for students to engage in, containing activities such as team-based poetry, creating artwork from their thumb prints and illustrating some of their favorite storybook characters.

Within the auditorium, audience members were amazed by performance artist Christopher Agostino of Agostino Arts, who worked together with student volunteers to bring folk tales to life by means of painting the students’ faces to convey the story being told.

Additionally, representatives from Barnes and Noble and the Connetquot Public Library were on hand to speak to students and their families about the important benefits of reading a good book.
