As part of the district’s commitment to character education, students at Idle Hour Elementary School regularly work to give back to the community at the local, regional and even global level.
Recently, the students teamed up to help out furry friends at the Town of Islip Animal Shelter. As part of the school’s “Fill a Puppy’s Bowl” food and toy drive, the students and staff members collected more than 75 essential food items, blankets, treats and toys for the pets.
The fifth-grade student government regularly performs community service and charitable work, as well. In keeping with their efforts to assist others, they are now collecting new toys and crafts for patients at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.
