As part of the district’s continued focus on creating lifelong readers, students at Sycamore Avenue Elementary School recently took part in this year’s Parents as Reading Partners program and read a total of 24,000 minutes at home over the course of four days.
In celebration of the student’s reading achievement, members of the teaching staff bravely took part in a fun-spirited “Principal’s Challenge” in front of the entire school. Dressed in ponchos and goggles, a dozen teachers and staff members bravely smiled as students were given the opportunity to “pie” them in the face with whipped cream. Even Principal Stuart Pollak took part in the fun event, as he was “pied” by his staff members for being such a good sport throughout the event.
Sycamore’s annual PARP program encourages students and parents to share a love for reading and spend quality time together at home.
