Taking Care of ‘Teddy’

Kindergartners at Cherokee Street Elementary School recently learned about the importance of being safety conscious and how to prevent injuries during a visit with Kristi Ladowski, the injury prevention and outreach coordinator of the Trauma Center at Stony Brook University Children’s Hospital. During the event, students discussed the need for seatbelts when riding in a car, were reminded to always wear helmets when riding a bike and even pretended to be doctors. Using such medical equipment as bandages, gauze and tongue depressors, kindergartners worked to assist their stuffed animal friends with any “injuries” they may have had.
