Elementary school students throughout the district recently had the opportunity to explore the basics of the ever-growing industry of computer coding by participating in the internationally recognized program, “Hour of Code.”

At Sycamore Elementary, with the help of school Math Specialist Susan McInerney, students of all grade levels were able to sign into the program and learn about a global movement that reaches tens of millions of students in over 180 countries.

“These one-hour tutorials, available in over 40 languages, currently total over close to 200,000 Hour of Code events around the world,” said Mrs. McInerney. “Every class at Sycamore, kindergarten through fifth grade, participated in this worldwide initiative.”

Students from Bosti Elementary and Duffield Elementary participated as well, and were able to enjoy playing educational games with themes such as “Star Wars” and “Minecraft,” all the while learning important coding techniques along the way.
