Conducting Environmental Science Research 1

Connetquot High School students in John Halloran’s Science Research class and Jessica Conrad’s Environmental Science class recently engaged in a hands-on science exploration at sites along the Connetquot River to celebrate this fall’s “A Day in the Life” initiative.

The program offers high school students the opportunity to collect firsthand information that will yield results as to how the Connetquot River fits into the larger ecosystem. CHS students examined the physical and chemical aspects of each aquatic ecosystem, measuring such factors as salinity content and the oxygen levels in the water. Their work assisted in further determining the health of the aquatic ecosystem and biodiversity of the Connetquot River.
