In a recent effort to promote the importance of kindness and compassion, Idle Hour Elementary School teachers and staff have implemented a “Blue Card” initiative to recognize those students in the building caught doing something that positively reflects their school.

Students are rewarded “Blue Cards” for such tasks as helping other students carry their books, returning money they found in the hallway, or behaving extremely well on the bus. Once a student is given a blue card, they are met with positive praise from the office staff and the principal, and are rewarded with a small token of appreciation for their positive behavior.

The initiative is one of the latest programs organized by the school’s DASA (Dignity for All Students Act) team, which meets monthly to plan for new building wide initiatives and activities to promote kindness and dignity for all students.
