BOYS BASKETBALL FALLS TO SACHEM EAST
The Connetquot High School boys’ basketball team hosted cross-town rival Sachem East on December 16th but came away on the short end of a 79-36 decision. First-year boys’ coach Andrew Clair took over a program that is rebuilding and expected challenges. He is confident the team will continue to improve, work together, and surprise some opponents as the season moves along. Top scorers for Connetquot were Dylan Waring (9), Johnny Melville (8), Joe Bamfo (6), and Sean Mileti & Aidan Orgonas (4).
Boys Track and Field Team Enjoy Successful December Weekend
The Connetquot High School boys track and field team enjoyed a busy and successful weekend on Dec. 14-15. The team participated in the St. Anthony’s High School Invitational on Saturday, and then brought their running shoes to Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on Sunday morning. Coach Tim Fischer noted that half the team competed at each of the tournaments.
During the Suffolk County Community College tournament Jeremy Bertolet placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 41’ 2.5” and was fourth in the long jump with a jump of 19’ 10.5”. Connetquot’s 4x400-meter relay placed first with a time of 3:35.34. Micah Cooper placed fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 11’6”. At St. Anthony’s High School, James Mastro won the 55-meter high hurdles with a time of 8.25 seconds, and Chris Andrade placed third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.98 seconds.
The Connetquot T-Birds demonstrated their skills in the early-season competitions, and the coaching staff is looking forward to another successful season.
